It’s at time of year again when we pull out the footy boots and the netball shoes and travel around the region to compete in the number of local football and netball leagues. While its easy to know what colors you will be wearing on field and court it’s always a bit trickier to know what to wear on the side lines and for the after game functions.
When it comes to footy fashion it’s not just opposition teams you have to watch out for, the unpredictable winter weather can also be tricky to navigate. With cold mornings, warm sunny afternoons or afternoon showers you need to dress appropriately for all kinds of weather.
Our resident style expert Hollie McGillivray says “it’s essential to cover up. So why not cover up in style. Keep warm with the latest trends, give yourself some motivation to strutt your stuff, rep those leather pieces, oversized jackets and booties, being warm can be cool too!” layer jackets over cooler tops or the latest instyle knits.
When it comes to shoes, boots are a girls best friend, they look great with a skinny jean or legging and offer warmth and dryness.
As for the blokes, a great jacket is essential but a nice hoodie and jean combo always looks the part. Be sure to dress it up with the wide range of dress sneakers or dessert boots now in season.
Local magazine has asked a number of local clothing and shoe stores to recommend their best footy season essentials.
These knits from Husk Street & Surf are cute and comfy and would look great with a skinny jean or legging.
Volcom Jumper $59.99
Miss Cheery Jumper $69.99
This Wish jacket with leather detailing from Gloss is a great investment for many seasons to come. Super stylish it will take you from day to night for those club functions and dinners.
The Paper Heart jumpers also from Gloss are a steal at under $50 and are bang on trend with the leatherette details.
For comfort and practicality through the day I can’t go past a great vest. The padded Ping Pong vests with fur trim fromThe Tailored Peach are great and you’l look extra special with the fur-trim hood.
You really can’t go past jeans or cargos for those long cold days on the sidelines. Warm and comfortable they have long been a footy staple. At around the $100 mark these Sirocco jeans and skinny leg cargos are a steal and they are cut to fit all different shapes and sizes. You can find them locally also at The Tailored Peach.
As for boots we popped in and visited the girls at shoe heaven Kazz’s Heels who have a fabulous selection of boots on offer this winter. Our top picks for footy were these two below. The ankle boots are really hot this season however the more traditional calf length is always great for footy.
And don’t forget your head! Jen and the girls at Husk have a range of beanies in store.
Now don’t think we have forgotten you blokes either. 35 Men’s in Cohuna have fabulous array of stylish men’s casual and dress clothing and all you will need to get you through this footy season.
If its a more casual look you are after then see Sharon and the girls at Gloss for this jeans & hoodie combo.
And once again we visited Kazz’s for these great dress sneakers and dessert boots, all at very reasonable prices!
So there you have it, the best of local footy fashion essentials. Be sure to pop into all the stores and see what other great buys they have on offer for you. Best of luck to all the footy and netball teams this season from local magazine.
